Abstract

|
Pregnancy in Rheumatic heart disease has offered to obstetrician or cardiologist puzzling problems.
In turn hemodynamic burden in pregnant women with mitral stenosis may occur heart failure or
pulmonary edema. The best treatment of rheumatic heart disease in pregnancy is aimed to minimize
the cardiac burden.
There are 3 principles of the treatment in mitral stenosis during pregnancy.
1) Conservative therapy
2) Therapeutic abortion
3) Valvulotomy in the more active procedure
Since 1953, Dogliotte¢¥ performed mitral valvulotomy during pregnancy successfully for the first
time, clinical studies in many laboratories and clinics have been reported on a new approach to the
treatment and discussed on it.
We Experienced two cases of mitral valvulotomy during pregnancy in the department of thoracic
and cardiovascular surgery of National Medical Center, and discussed about indication of mitral
valvulotomy in pregnancy with review of literatures.
